2022 Ford Explorer vs 2022 Toyota Highlander

2022 Ford Explorer vs 2022 Toyota Highlander

The Ford Explorer and the Toyota Highlander are three-row SUVs that offer spacious and comfortable cabins, a wide range of modern features, and an available hybrid powertrain. To help you choose between these two capable SUVs, here's a short comparison.

Power

You can choose from three powertrains with the 2022 Ford Explorer. The standard 2.3-liter engine generates 300 horsepower, while an available turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine produces 400 horsepower. The hybrid powertrain uses a 3.3-liter V-6 engine and an electric motor and produces a combined 318 horsepower. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive available.

With the 2022 Toyota Highlander, you can choose from two powertrains. An output of 295 horsepower is generated with the standard 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The hybrid powertrain uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, which generate a combined 243 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive available.

Cabin

The Explorer's cabin is comfortable and the rear cargo area provides an above-average 18.2 cubic feet of space. You can expect an equally comfortable cabin with the Highlander. However, its rear cargo area of 16 cubic feet isn't as spacious as the Explorer's.

Both SUVs are well-equipped. Standard features include tri-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and cloth upholstery.

Technology

Both SUVs are equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a Wi-Fi hotspot, USB ports, and six speakers. A wide range of driver-assist systems comes standard, including a lane-keeping system, a blind-spot monitor, and forward-collision warning.

While both are capable and modern SUVs, the Explorer offers a choice of three engines and also features a larger rear cargo area.
