The Explorer's trim levels offer everything from basic to luxurious. The Active trim has 18-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, and a power liftgate. For a sportier appearance, the ST-Line has 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with painted pockets and black exterior details. The ST trim goes further with 21-inch magnetite-painted aluminum wheels and sport-style bumpers. The top-of-the-line Platinum has 21-inch dark alloy polished aluminum wheels and a satin aluminum grille.

The Explorer offers two engine choices to fit different driving needs. The standard engine for the Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims is a 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4, which produces 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, standard on the ST and an option for the Platinum, delivers an impressive 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. When properly equipped, the Explorer can tow 5,000 pounds, enough for trailers or boats.

All trims have a 10-speed automatic transmission, which shifts gears smoothly and delivers power efficiently. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive is available for extra grip. The Terrain Management System, which has selectable drive modes, lets drivers adjust the vehicle's performance to suit differing driving conditions. This system improves traction and stability — in the city or on off-road trails. For a more exciting driving experience, the ST model has a sport-tuned suspension, making handling sharper and improving corner taking.

Inside the Explorer, comfort and technology are the main focus. The SUV can seat seven people, making it great for families or those who often travel with groups. The interior's main feature is a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system that makes navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings easy to use. The driver receives vital vehicle information from a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The optional twin-panel moonroof lets in natural light, making the inside feel open and airy, and leather seats are available for those who want a touch of luxury and a more upscale feel to the cabin. The Explorer is also practical; 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space opens up when the back seats are folded, giving plenty of room for luggage, groceries, or outdoor gear.

Safety is paramount in the Explorer, and Ford Co-Pilot360 technology is standard on all trims. This package includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and other features. For an even better experience, Ford BlueCruise offers hands-free highway driving on certain roads. A 360-degree camera system is available, giving a bird's-eye view around the car.
