Co-Pilot360 is one of the greatest Ford safety features, and it’s available in every model. This advanced driver-assistance system uses sensors, cameras, and radar to scan the area around your vehicle and warn you of potential threats. Some of its systems will actively intervene to prevent an accident. We will take a closer look at how some of its features work.
Lane-Keeping Assist
This system uses a camera to identify the lane line markings and will alert you if your wheels cross the lines when you’re not actively steering. If it sounds several warnings, it will also display a coffee cup icon on your screen to remind you to take a break from driving.
Blind Spot Infomation System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert
Blind spots have always been a danger for drivers, as they’re areas that are impossible to see when you’re behind the wheel. Another vehicle can easily enter a blind spot and could result in an accident if you change lanes. BLIS prevents this using sensors installed to cover all blind spots.
The sensors will alert you if any vehicle enters its range, allowing you to take action and prevent a collision. The Cross-Traffic Alert uses sensors that watch directly behind you and will instantly warn if a vehicle appears behind you when you’re reversing.
Adaptive Cruise Control
This system can be programmed to keep to a set speed, making it very useful for long-distance driving on the highway. It also maintains a set distance between your Ford and any vehicle in front. If the vehicle distance closes, it gently applies the brakes to increase the distance again. It also includes the three features below.
Stop-And-Go
This feature automatically reduces your speed and stops if it detects heavy traffic. Once it detects the distance increasing between you and the vehicle ahead, it will start your engine and resume its pre-set speed.
Lane-Centering
A small camera identifies the lane lines and then works to keep your Ford centered in its lane. It provides audio alerts if you move toward the lines and are not actively steering.
Speed Sign Recognition
This feature also uses a camera that scans for posted speed limits and reduces your speed if necessary to comply with these limits.
Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
This system uses a camera and radar to identify any vehicle in front. It calculates the distance between the vehicles to determine if a collision risk exists. If it identifies a possible collision, it provides visual and audio warnings so you can take action. It will also automatically apply hard braking to stop your vehicle to prevent an accident.
