1. Natchez Trace State Park

Take a 45.6-mile drive to Natchez Trace State Park at 22390 Natchez Trace Road in Wildersville to spend the day surrounded by 9,000 acres of lush green forests on the shores of beautiful lakes. The park is in the 36,642-acre Natchez Trace State Forest and Wildlife Management Area and is the ideal destination for hiking, paddling, boating, and fishing.

With 23 miles of hiking trails ranging from one mile up to 4.5 miles, there’s plenty of opportunity to explore. The park has four scenic lakes with lovely swimming areas at Cub and Pin Oak Lakes and offers Jon boat, canoe, kayak, and paddle boat rentals.

2. The West Tennessee Regional Art Center

The West Tennessee Regional Art Center at 1200 Main Street in Humboldt, 49 miles from Paris, is the only art center displaying a permanent fine art collection in the region.

The center is the home of the Lois and Wallis Jones Boehm Porcelain Collection and the Ewers and Caldwell Collections, which includes oil and watercolor paintings, drawings, pastels, prints, sculptures, lithographs, and silk screens. The center also displays traveling exhibitions and hosts the annual West Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition in January and February.

3. Herbie Town

While in Humboldt, visit Herbie Town, a quaint little Wild West town that Herbert and Marie Adams constructed over 40 years on their farm at 778 Humboldt Gibson Wells Road. Herbert and Marie have been happily married for over 60 years, and even though Herbie Town only has a population of two and isn’t growing, Herbert keeps on building.

Marie will guide you through the town, tell stories about its history, and point out places of interest. Stroll with her along the streets and pop in at the Wagon Wheel Hotel and Saloon, Stagecoach Inn, bank, church, blacksmith shop, funeral parlor, and livery stables packed with thousands of historical artifacts, memorabilia, and interesting items.

4. Tennessee Safari Park

Head 62 miles down the road to Alamo for a drive-through safari at the Tennessee Safari Park at 618 Conley Road, boasting one of the largest collections of animals in the country. On the 7.5-mile safari, you’ll encounter wildlife from every corner of the globe except Antarctica. It’s a fantastic experience with animals roaming close to your vehicle and some even blocking the road.

There are herds of bison, zebra, various types of deer, and rare and endangered antelope. You can also meet adorable and friendly creatures at the petting zoo, enjoy extraordinary animal encounters at the 20-acre walk-through zoo, home to monkeys, sloths, wallabies, and parakeets, and even feed carrots to the giraffe.
