Routine car maintenance is only one way to keep your Ford in excellent running condition. Below, your Ford dealer provides valuable maintenance tips to help you maintain your vehicle and enjoy every mile behind the wheel.

1. Stick to the Oil Change Intervals

The best thing you can do for your Ford is to follow the factory-prescribed oil change intervals. Regular oil changes lubricate the engine and keep it functioning efficiently. Typically, Ford recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles or six months, but if you own a model from before 2007, changing the oil every 5,000 miles or six months is highly advisable.

Newer Ford models come equipped with the Intelligent Oil Life Monitor that notifies you when an oil change is required. Your model’s oil change intervals are in your owner’s manual.

2. Check the Fluid Levels Regularly

Maintaining the proper fluid levels is essential to ensure its parts are well-lubricated and cool. Check the engine oil, brake, coolant, transmission, and power steering fluids at least once a month and top them off as needed.

3. Inspect Your Battery

Regularly inspect your battery for corrosion. If you see a white substance around the metal posts, clean it off using baking soda and water. Examine the battery case for cracks or bulges. If you notice any damage or excessive corrosion, replace the battery immediately to prevent a breakdown.

4. Look After Your Tires

Regularly checking your car’s tire pressure and maintaining it at the recommended level can help reduce tire wear and improve fuel efficiency. Inspecting the tires for signs of damage and checking the tread depth regularly, preferably once a month, can help you identify potential issues early on and avoid blowouts. To ensure your tires wear evenly and to prolong their life, rotate them every time your Ford technician changes the oil.

5. Protect Your Car’s Exterior

Always park your car in a garage or under a cover to protect the bodywork from the harmful rays of the sun, hail, and snow. Your car’s paint is vulnerable to various elements, such as dust, road dirt, tree sap, and bird droppings, which can cause damage. To keep your car’s paint job looking good, give it a good wash to get rid of the grime.
