Tires play a big role in how your vehicle handles, how quickly you’re able to brake, and how comfortable you are while driving. To maintain optimum performance, it’s important to make sure your tires’ air pressure, tread depth, and alignment are all correct. And when you’re starting to see any of these signs of wear and tear, you’ll want to visit your local Ford dealer to purchase new tires.

You’ve Experienced Visible Damage

One of the most obvious scenarios in which you may need a replacement tire is if you’ve hit a curb, run over a huge pothole, or done something else to cause immediate damage. You may also notice visible deflation after this type of scenario. Even if a specific incident hasn’t occurred, it’s a good idea to routinely inspect your tires for any damage or wear, such as those caused by rocks, nails, or scraping against curbs.

Your Tires Are Leaking Air

Air leaks can deflate your tires and alter your tire pressure. Declining pressure can be a sign that your tire has experienced a small puncture and that you are in need of a repair or replacement. Significant declines in pressure may indicate a larger hole.

Your Vehicle Has Less Traction

Sometimes you can pick up on the need for replacement tires by the way your vehicle is handling. Does it feel as though your tires aren’t gripping the road quite as tightly in rainy, snowy, wet conditions? Are your tires slipping more often than they used to? If your tires seem to have less traction, it could be because your treads are wearing to the point where you are due for replacement.

Your Tires Have Bulges, Blisters

If irregular bumps have formed on the outside of your tires, it’s best to schedule time for a maintenance inspection. These bulges and blisters can create air pockets that weaken the tire and leave it more prone to blowouts. Cracks in the sides of your tires or between the treads are another sign that your tires are wearing and it may be time for a replacement.

You’re Receiving TPMS Warnings

Many modern models are equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system that signals you, via a light that comes on, if your tires are significantly under-inflated. If you receive consistent TPMS warnings, you should have the service department at your local dealership check it out. It’s possible a new set of tires could be in order, but it’s also possible your vehicle’s systems need to be inspected.

Don’t let aging tires and the risk of blowout sneak up on you. When the tires on your vehicle are due for replacement, head to Joe Mahan Ford.
